Ramos’ Goal Helps Mexican Club Earn a Point Against Champions League Finalist

The Club World Cup continues in the United States. Mexican club Monterrey took the lead and earned a point against UEFA Champions League finalist Inter Milan – 1:1.

The five-time Mexican champions Monterrey went ahead in the 25th minute, when team captain Sergio Ramos rose highest after a corner kick and scored with a header to make it 1–0. The 39-year-old center-back joined the Mexican side in February. He spent the most successful years of his career with Real Madrid, winning five La Liga titles and triumphing in the Champions League four times.

Before the end of the first half, Inter Milan managed to equalize. Albanian Kristjan Asllani delivered a free-kick into the penalty area to Carlos Augusto, who set up captain Lautaro Martínez for an easy finish into an open net – 1:1.

Champions League finalists and Italian runners-up Inter played their first official match under new head coach Cristian Chivu. Former head coach Simone Inzaghi accepted a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.

Although the Milan club created more chances, they were unable to secure the win. Both teams end with a point. Leading Group E with three points is Argentina’s River Plate, who beat Japan’s Urawa Reds 3–1.

Another match took place last night. South African club Mamelodi Sundowns defeated South Korea’s Ulsan HD 1–0. The goal was scored by Iqraam Rayners. Interestingly, he found the net three times in the first half, but two of the goals were disallowed due to handball.
