He’ll be entering his 24th season after spending the past eight years with the Lakers, leading them to a championship in 2020 over the Miami Heat.
James will join the likes of former MVP Joel Embiid and recently acquired star Jaylen Brown in the City of Brotherly Love.
Philly will now run a starting five consisting of Embiid, LeBron, Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecomb. The team traded for Brown earlier in the offseason in a blockbuster deal that sent Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks to the Boston Celtics.
James posted a thread on X (formerly Twitter), starting by saying, “I thought I was done when the season ended.”
His 20.9 points per game this past season tied a career low, making it the fewest PPG he has put up since his rookie season (2003-2004), while his 31% three-point percentage is the lowest it’s been since the 2007-2008 season…when he led the league with 30 points per game.
Lakers president Jeanie Buss posted a farewell to James on social media as the team now moves on with Luka Doncic as their centerpiece.
Meanwhile, James’ son, Bronny, stayed with the Lakers on a fully guaranteed $2.3 million deal for the 2026-2027 season.
Bronny averaged less than 3.0 points per game in each of his first two seasons in the NBA, also averaging less than 9.0 minutes of playing time per game.
