The Danish League Association (Divisionsforeningen) has announced in a press release that the requirements for the cup final are undergoing significant changes. From now on, no club in Denmark will be able to enjoy home-field advantage in what is arguably the single biggest match in Danish football.
“Should the final always be played at the same stadium, or should a team never have the advantage of playing at home in the final? The boards of the Danish FA and the Danish League Association have now decided that the latter scenario should be avoided whenever possible,” they write, adding:
“In practice, this means that a primary stadium will be selected for the final each year, but the match may be moved to a different venue if the club based at the primary stadium reaches the final.”
The Danish League Association states that the decision was made based on sporting considerations. Parken has hosted the final for many years; it is also the venue where FC Copenhagen has played 14 of its 15 cup finals.
