Go Ahead Eagles – FC Volendam: 3-0
After three draws and a defeat in their opening four games, UEFA Europa League outfit Go Ahead Eagles finally grabbed their first win of the Eredivisie season after beating FC Volendam 3-0 in Deventer.
Following a long delay due to torrential rain, Danish starlet Jakob Breum got the Eagles underway early with a goal in the fifth minute, after which Swedish colleague Victor Edvardsen doubled the lead just ten minutes in.
Belgian winger Mathis Suray added more salt to Volendam’s wounds with the home side’s third goal of the opening half on the brink of half-time.
Volendam barraged the Eagles’ goal in the second half, but with great inaccuracy, as just one of their sixteen attempts was aimed at Jari De Busser’s goal.
Go Ahead Eagles head into their first derby week of the season with their first win in the bag, as PEC Zwolle await in the IJsselderby. FC Volendam suffered their first defeat after four consecutive draws, but will look to grab their first win with a home game against fellow promoted side Excelsior next on the calendar.
FC Twente – NAC Breda: 2-2
The dismissal of manager Joseph Oosting has not brought FC Twente the desired effect yet, as NAC Breda came into Enschede and stole a point after an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Twente’s management fired Oosting after a very disappointing start to their Eredivisie season, which saw the club lose three of their first four league games. NAC put the home side in even more misery very early on, when Mohamed Nassoh fired home from close range after three minutes.
It took Twente over an hour to recover from Nassoh’s goal, thanks to newcomer Marko Pjaca. The former World Cup finalist neatly finished the ball in the far corner, putting FC Twente back in the game after 64 minutes.
A questionable penalty saw Ricky van Wolfswinkel fire FC Twente ahead in the 87th minute, but it wasn’t enough for three points as Raul Paula earned the visitors a point in the 91st minute with a blast from the near post.
FC Twente’s wait for their first win of the season continues as a trip to Rotterdam for an away game at Sparta is next up for the Tukkers. NAC Breda host Heracles Almelo next week as they seek their second win of the season.
