Fiorentina’s decision to sack Grosso came as something of a surprise: after the defeat at home to Torino, no club official spoke to the media, and the message coming from the club was one of trust in the coach despite the disappointing start to the season and protests from the fans.
After his experience in charge of Sassuolo, Grosso arrived in Florence at the beginning of June, chosen by sporting director Fabio Paratici, to start a project to relaunch the team, which last season only secured safety with two games to spare.
No one expected such a poor start, especially considering the €130 million transfer campaign that overhauled the squad. Fiorentina brought in 13 new players as they tried to bolster the team. Given the number of signings, many considered the team to have had a successful transfer window, and would challenge for the European spots.
While the club have not announced their next manager, reports indicate that Paolo Vanoli could be making a return to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The 54-year-old came in last November after a horrific start to the 2025/26 campaign where La Viola spent the majority of the year flirting with relegation. Despite leading them to a 15th place finish, Fiorentina chose to let him go at season’s end.
